Description of the Program

The Chemical Biology Program Utrecht is a “research driven” program in which groups from various departments of the faculty of Science participate that adhere to the following description of Chemical Biology: The development of molecular approaches for design and synthesis of bio-active and bio-mimetic molecules and their use as chemical tools to study and modulate relevant biological processes.
It is expected that this “not all-inclusive definition” will be favorable for coherence of the program Research groups, having a majority of chemical biology research are responsible for shaping the Chemical Biology Program and will form the nucleus of the program. Around this nucleus, we envision different levels of participation and input by groups having varying degrees of chemical biology oriented research. These groups together with more biologically, pharmacologically and clinically oriented groups will provide valuable and essential contributions to the program with respect to expertise, targets and evaluation necessary for the Biology component of the program.
