The aim of the project is to investigate visual space by means of novel psychophysical methods. With these tasks we address the projective structure of visual space, thus opening a novel direction in this field. We intend to study a wide spectrum of settings, from the classical dark room with luminous points and fixed head position to the natural environment with free eye, head and postural movements. We are especially interested in the possible influence of the structure of the environment on the nature of visual space. We found that observers make appreciable and systematic pointing errors. Preliminary results are in many respects quite different from the predictions of Luneburg's theory. |
