The Karthaus summer school was accomodated in the luxurious hotel Zur Goldenen Rose, run by Paul Grüner.
Traditionally, several musical events are organised during the summer school. Unfortunately there were no tango lessons this year, but there was a lot of piano music.
The summer school students started a Facebook group.
The group left Karthaus around 8:30 by bus for the village of Kurzras. This is where we took the 9 o'clock cable car up to the mountain Grawand (3251 m). Unusually high snowfall for September has resulted in almost winter conditions around the mountain when we arrived. We had to walk and slide down the ski slope parallel to the glacier. It was not safe to walk on the lower part of the glacier, due to the fresh snow covering crevasses. The group could therefore not reach the weather station on the glacier.
We continued walking up to the alpine hut Schönes Aussicht (2842 m), where we could catch our breath and prepare ourselves for the walk up to the Im Hinteren Eis (3269 m). The thick snow cover made the path slippery and inhospitable, but for those who made it to the top, a spectecular view on the Hintereisferner glacier awaited them.
