3.4 million for MEMO2 – European grant for international project on methane measurements coordinated by Prof. Dr. Thomas Röckmann

The Marie Curie project called MEMO2, “Methane Goes Mobile – Measurements and Modelling”, has been awarded a grant of nearly 3.4 million Euros by the European Commission. The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Thomas Röckmann, head of our Atmospheric Physics and Chemistry group (APCG), here at IMAU.

Collaborations between Dutch universities including Utrecht, Groningen and Wageningen with other European universities in France, Switzerland, the UK, Germany, Poland and Sweden are aimed to develop more accurate ways of measuring methane emissions. Estimates of the main sources of methane remain poorly quantified and hamper the verification of reductions of greenhouse gas emissions, which have been agreed on in Paris 2015.
