Guest Researchers interests and experience
Frederico Rodrigues
Frederico’s research uses different proxies to understand the geochemistry of natural gas hydrates system. He has worked in the Rio Grande Cone in Brazil, a new province of natural gas hydrate in the western South Atlantic and in the Amazon deep-sea fan, NE Brazil. Both were the first samples of gas hydrates recovered offshore in those regions.
One of the main interests is to study the origins of methane combining traditional isotopes with clumped isotopologues to improved discrimination between the methane sources, recognition of specific chemical mechanisms of methanogenesis and quantitative geothermometry.
As an analytical chemist, he has experience in sampling preparation techniques using microwave systems to digest different types of samples to metals determination by ICP-MS and ICP OES. In addition, he is an expert in direct solid sampling analyzing using graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (DS-GF AAS) for metals determination in industrial and environmental applications.
