Geometric Structures in Utrecht Utrecht University - Mathematics Department Home

On the occasion of the

PHD defense of Maria Amelia Salazar on May 24, 2013 at 12:45 (at Academiegebouw)

we organize a

Topology & Geometry Day on May 23, 2013

Schedule for May 23, 2013

10:00-11:00 (at Math 611) Camilo Arias Abad / University of Zurich

Title: Formality of the little disks operad and higher holonomies

Abstract: We will begin by discussing a higher dimensional notion of parallel transport for flat connections with values in differential graded Lie algebras. The construction is based  on the $A$-infinty version of de-Rham Theorem, due to Gugenheim. Then, we will explain how this parallel transport is related to Kontsevich's proof of formality of the little disks operad. This talk is based on joint work in progress with F. Schaetz.

11:00-11:30 Coffee Break

11:30-12:30 (at Math 611) Camille Laurent-Gengoux / Université de Poitiers

Title: Atiyah classes and exponential maps

Abstract: The Atiyah classes of a Lie algebroid pair is known to obstruct the existence of an equivariant exponential map. When it does not vanish, a natural Lie-infinity structure appears. We shall give an explicit construction of it. Based on a joined work with Mathieu Stiénon and Ping Xu.

12:30-14:00 Lunch Break

14:00-15:00 (at Math 611) Ivan Struchiner / University of Sao Paulo

Title: TBA

Abstract: TBA

15:00-15:30 Coffee Break (staff colloquium)

15:30-16:30 (at Math 611, staff colloquium) Peter Olver / University of Minnesota

Title: Lie pseudo-groups and moving frames

Abstract: In this talk, I will present a new approach to the analysis of Lie pseudo-groups. The equivariant method of moving frames leads to new constructive algorithms for the Maurer--Cartan forms and the structure equations, as well as the complete classification of differential invariants and invariant differential operators and forms. The resulting recurrence formulae reveal the complete structure of the differential invariant algebra of the pseudo-group. Applications to differential equations and variational problems arising in geometry and physics will be discussed.
