• N80 : gaussian grid, 80 latitudes, reduced to poles
  Only the 'default' ECMWF resolutions are available in reduced form; see the Gaussian grids page.
• N80reg : gaussian grid, 80 latitudes, regular
  Regular resolutions were sometimes required in former days, when grids that were archived in MARS at a high resolution (say N512) could only be extracted at lower resolution (say N80) on a regular grid. OD data in 2001 was for example extracted as N80reg; ERA40 is saved as N80, and has always been extracted in the reduced N80 form.
