Karthaus summer school
2005

Glacial poetry

Both Andrew Fowler and Ian Rutt entertained the summer school participants with songs and a doggerel at the very last night. Andrew's songs as well as Ian's are available now.

Zur Goldenen Rose

The Karthaus summer school was accommodated in the excellent hotel Zur Goldenen Rose.

Karthaus doggerel 2005

Johannes Oerlemans' data is good;
in a four star hotel, well, may be it should

Rosa da Ora, Goldene Rose.
How they make money, only Paul knows.

Karthaus is good, Karthaus is fun
Conservation of mass simply cannot be done.

Hilmar the Tango, just one Vecchia more,
First you make eye contact, then scan the floor.

Paul went cycling in Tuscany sun.
But now living is free, so his girlfriend is gone.

Ros needs a coke just to get started.
Dorthe tells jokes, how the GRIP people farted.

Ian pianoman likes yellow knodel
But his favourite dish is carrot melonodel.

Sophie and Mauro both smoke like a tractor
Corrosion of lungs the deciding factor.

Dan Hill's a footballer, good at the goal kick
He studies Antarctic ice Cenozoic.

Pater or Peter, or Pooter or Piet
To vary his vowel's Kuipers Munneke's treat.

Tim has a laptop, a bit like my knee
It wobbles alarmingly under the tree.
He finally shut it, and proceeded to say
That his glacier moved thirty metres a day.

Adam Treverow comes from down under
His efforts at sums were, frankly, a blunder.

Petra's a smile that would bring out the stars
Her effective pressure was six hundred bars

Helena speaks very fast, with charisma
She plays Mozart concertos at molto prestissima.

Gwen is from Brittany and therefore is Breton
Frankly, I think that George Bush is a cretin.

Croissants and strudel and doughnuts and kaffee
Blueberry muffin, in other words Joe Shea.

Rachel Jean Zammett is going to turn red
Expecting to hear what's about to be said.

Georg went climbing in deepest Peru
He doesn't speak Spanish, but neither do you.

Otzi's a Dutchman now, so I'm told
He must be feeling incredibly old.

I go for a run every day about seven
A beer in the shower is my idea of heaven.

Andrew Fowler, here I stand
Theoretical glaciological man.
