My main research interest is the interaction between cloud microphysics
and cloud dynamics, especially during the process of rain formation. It is known
that aerosol sizedistribution and chemical content influence the cloud droplet
number concentration and sizedistribution. These cloud properties control for a
part the collision-coalescence efficiency, i.e. the rain formation. But cloud dynamics, for
example updraft and entrainment, have at least some influence, depending on the type of cloud.
For instance, large hail can only be formed in a convective cloud having a strong updraft.
These considerations lead to my Phd project:
How important is the aerosol for rain formation, when cloud dynamics are taken into account as well?.
