Excursion

After 4 days of lectures and hard work, we went on an excursion to give our brains some time to recover and our longs some fresh air.



From Kurzras (2000 m.a.s.l.), a town at the upper end of the Schnalstal, we took the cable cart up the mountain (3212 m.a.s.l.). From this we started our walk, which led us down the mountain, over a glacier, to the mountain hut Schöne Aussicht/Bella Vista (2848 m.a.s.l), where we had lunch.



The weather started out as bright and sunny, but turned to clouds and rain (and even some snow) as we walked down after lunch. During our walk however, we were able to watch the yearly traditional sheep return from the summer meadow back into the Schnalstal valley. Thousands of sheep walking down the mountain, that's quite a spectacular sight!



We followed the sheep on their way down, to end up in the middle of a celebration for the sheep return, which included dancing in leather pants, music and of course beer. Tired but satisfied we arrived back in Karthaus, ready for the second week of lectures.
